Match statuses reference

A match fixture moves through a series of statuses during its lifecycle. This page explains each status, who can see it, and how to move a fixture between statuses.

Draft

A fixture starts as draft when first created. Draft fixtures are visible to appointments managers and society admins only - referees cannot see them.

You can assign officials to a draft fixture (for internal planning), but officials will not receive notifications until the fixture is confirmed.

Move to confirmed when the fixture details are finalised and ready to publish.

Confirmed

confirmed is the normal operational state for a fixture. It is visible to all referees and can receive official assignments.

When a fixture is confirmed, any officials already assigned receive a notification.

Cancelled

If a match does not go ahead (e.g. bad weather, club withdrawal), the fixture is cancelled. Cancelled fixtures are not visible to referees and cannot receive appointments.

Assigned officials are notified when a fixture is cancelled.

Warning: Cancellation is not easily reversed. If there is uncertainty about whether a match will go ahead, consider keeping the fixture in confirmed status until a final decision is made.

Completed

After the match date has passed and all post-match actions are done, the fixture moves to completed. Completed fixtures are visible to referees in their match history but can no longer receive appointments.

Status transitions

Draft -> Confirmed (publish the fixture)
Confirmed -> Cancelled (match is called off)
Confirmed -> Completed (match has been played)
Draft -> Cancelled (fixture removed before publishing)

Not all transitions are available to all roles. Only appointments managers and society admins can change fixture status.
