Glossary

This glossary defines the key terms used in RefMatch. When in doubt about what a term means, check here first.


A

Appointment The assignment of an official to a specific role on a specific fixture. An appointment can be unassigned, pending, or confirmed.

Appointments Manager A role in RefMatch for the person (or team) responsible for creating fixtures and assigning officials. In rugby societies this person is often called the appointments secretary or fixtures secretary.

Appointments Queue (also: walkthrough) The list of fixtures that have one or more unfilled official roles. The appointments team works through this queue to assign officials.

AR1 / AR2 Assistant Referee 1 and Assistant Referee 2. The two touch judges on a rugby fixture. Also called assistant referees.

Assessor A match official assigned to observe and assess a referee during a match. Typically a MOD or MOC who is evaluating the referee's performance for development purposes.


C

Captain's Card A structured post-match feedback form submitted by a club captain to rate and comment on the match officials. Also called captain feedback or club feedback.

Constituent Body (CB) A regional rugby body (e.g. Midlands Rugby, London & South East Rugby). In RefMatch, the constituent body is used to organise competitions and structure within the society.

Confirmed (fixture status) A match fixture that has been published and is visible to referees. Compare with draft.

Confirmed (appointment status) An appointment where the official has accepted and confirmed they will attend.


D

Development Profile A referee's full development record in RefMatch, including all finalised RMDE reports, performance trend indicators, and match history. Visible to training team, MODs, and society admins.

Draft (fixture status) A match fixture that has been created but not yet published. Officials cannot see draft fixtures.


E

Expense Claim A record of costs submitted by an official for reimbursement (e.g. travel mileage). Reviewed by the society's treasurer.


F

Finalised (report status) An RMDE report that has been completed, agreed, and locked. Finalised reports form part of the official's permanent development record.

Fixture A scheduled rugby match. In RefMatch, fixtures are the records that appointments are attached to. May also be called a match.


M

Match Synonymous with fixture in RefMatch. A scheduled rugby game.

MOD (Match Official Developer) A role in RefMatch for someone who writes RMDE development reports for referees.

MOC (Match Official Coach) A higher-performance coaching role in RefMatch with the same permissions as MOD.


O

Official A match official - typically a referee or assistant referee. In RefMatch, "official" is the preferred term when the role is not specified.

Org (Organisation) The top-level entity in RefMatch. A society is an org. All members, fixtures, and appointments belong to an org.


P

Panel The full set of officials assigned to a fixture - typically the referee, AR1, AR2, and assessor.

Pending (appointment status) An appointment where an official has been assigned and notified but has not yet confirmed.


R

Referee A match official who takes the primary referee role on a fixture. In RefMatch, also the role name for active officials who are members of a society.

RMDE Report (Referee Match Development and Evaluation) A structured performance assessment written by a MOD or MOC after observing a referee's match. The primary tool for formal referee development in the society.


S

Season The defined period (usually an annual rugby season) that fixtures, appointments, and development records are attributed to.

Society The rugby referee society that operates RefMatch. Equivalent to "org" in the platform. Societies are the top-level entities - they contain members, clubs, competitions, and fixtures.


T

Training Team A role in RefMatch for people involved in referee development (coordinators, coaches) who need read access to all officials' development data without operational access to appointments.


W

Walkthrough (see: Appointments Queue) The appointment queue view in RefMatch that guides the appointments team through unassigned roles one fixture at a time.
